I’ve looked online for a definition of sorts, but all I find are very particular -this is what bros wear- sorts of things.
But what I wanted was a better definition at who a bro is, I guess. What sort of personality this person would have, seeing as how it’s included as a personality trait for TS4.
From what I can gather, a bro is someone with extremely fluffed up confidence. He thinks he’s god’s gift to women; women should fall at his feet and fuck him whenever he wants. He doesn’t treat anyone with respect. If a woman isn’t in to him or doesn’t respond in the way he wants (when he catcalls or attempts to flirt), she’s a lesbian. He doesn’t want anyone to ever question his heterosexuality. To a bro, “gay” is an insult. He doesn’t care about having a conversation of any meaning or thought aside from where’s the next joint and who’s buying the keg. If you try to speak with this person, he just brushes you off with “cool story, bro” and then ignores you. If you point out how rude he’s behaving, he responds with, “u mad, bro?” Which causes all his other bro-friends to laugh with him at the person he spoke to.
Because disregarding someone and being condescending is so humorous. /sarcasm
A “bromance” is a close platonic friendship between two human males. Bros would utilize this word instead of “best friend” or just “friend” because those words could somehow be misconstrued as homosexual in nature? Or those words are too girly?
From what I can tell with the sims 4, a “bro hug” is a handshake-hug. Which I guess was formed by two people who didn’t want the full body contact of a hug but still wanted to have a hug-like greeting? Because “hugs are girly and could mean you’re gay.”
The little logo of the “bro” trait in sims 4 looks like the thing people do with their hand to represent a telephone. I don’t know how this connects with the rest.
… In my opinion they could scrap the whole “bro” trait and have a trait called rude or obnoxious and leave out the misogynistic undertones that “bro” and everything connected to “bro” implies. “Bromance” could be scrapped for just calling someone your best friend. “Bro hug” could be scrapped for handshake-hug and everyone could do it. It is also said that bros are interested in sports. What’s wrong with two traits “rude” and “interested in sports”?
I realize that including “bro” in the sims was a way of trying to reel in the male demographic into the “girly” sims games. I think whoever decided the sims games was for girls and whoever thought adding “bro” would make males feel more inclined to play the game is full of horse shit. But again, that’s just my opinion, your milage may vary.
Husband summed this up by saying, “high confidence & low intelligence; also known as a douche-bag.
